Welcome to Phil Holtan’s woodturning world. I’ve been busy filling orders, keeping my galleries supplied, and selling at a few art shows. I’m also teaching some workshops in my studio and would love to visit with you about learning to turn.
Meantime, you can find a number of my turned items at Jim Krom’s Natural Image Gallery in Rochester or Ingebretsen’s on South Lake Street in Minneapolis. I’d love for you to call me with questions or to set up an appointment to visit my shop in Eagan. 701-261-6044
What’s the Big Idea behind my woodturned bowls?
Phil’s bowls represent both order and chaos - the contrast between polished square kitchens and the random chaotic created world. Through each piece he navigates between the rough bowl edges and bark, and smooth, lovely curves and angles. Reminiscent of lake cabins in his local Minnesota, his bowls are a bit of wilderness and wildness in our structured and squared off lives. One of Phil’s burl bowls is like a trip to the cabin, bringing freedom and rough beauty.
